Welcome ▸ About

My friends and I provide consulting, custom development and integration services inline with our mission. Wherever feasible, we use Apple and Palo Alto hardware and software solutions, and we emphasize open technical standards. Throughout 31 years of refining our professional practice, our accomplishments span almost every major industry, and our accumulated technical "toolbox" is comprehensive, ranging from embedded systems software to z/OS solutions.

I would appreciate an opportunity to lead your next IT project, from initial planning through to final retrospective. After only a brief initial consultation, you might even be better informed. Get in touch, and let's make a plan. 🔒 or call 352-505-7885 to speak directly with Dave.

Dave’s enterprises and ops

What I do

My operations are full-service information technology consultancies. We eliminate needless complexity in business IT systems, and write both documents and code to do that.

Mission

My mission is to define excellence in Information Technology (IT) practice and IT service delivery.

Capabilities

My core competency is enterprise information management. This includes both infrastructure and application architecture, and service configurations.

Connections

We’d love to hear from you. 🔒 We used to have social media presence, but over the years we’ve come to feel human, interpersonal connections matter most.

Please see also our social media policies.

Business names

The “Streamlines” name alludes to information flow. This page from our very old brochure is still mostly relevant.

Principals

Our co-founder, Dave Tingling, has spent a majority of his lifetime studying deep business requirements, robust technology, and high performance computing. Claire is his support, inspiration, and best friend.

History

In 1993, with a two-year diploma in “systems analysis” and another in “computer programming”, Dave began independent contract IT service delivery for a mobile Point-of-sale Trucking Systems (POSTS) project at the Jamaica Broiler’s Group. By 1995, Dave was pioneering successful Internet technology implementations for Jamaican enterprises, featuring Linux solutions. At that time, Claire and Dave used Unix telnet with talk services to date long distance, in real-time. By 2003, “Streamlines” got started in Florida by delivering live video tutoring for college engineering courses.

Dave gratefully acknowledges insights he’s synthesized from other technology experts while employed, variously, at Scotiabank Jamaica, The Jamaica Broilers Group, The Laboratory for Information Systems and Telecommunications (at the University of Florida’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department), Barr Systems, and Info Tech. You all know yourselves (smile). If we’ve lost touch, please know I’m still grateful for all the experiences, and would love to hear from you again—please do drop me a line—I’d love to talk! 🔒

Claire

Claire is a classically trained graphic designer with over thirty (30) years of production experience. Immediately after completing four years of study at the Edna Manley School of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica, her talent was recognized by respected graphic designer Bunny Levy, who promptly signed her onboard his design studio.

Thereafter, Claire worked with creative teams for leading advertising agencies, such as CGR Communications and Pan Media. She developed not only creative insight, but also project management skills and leadership qualities. In the spring of 2000, she became one of only two designers operating the University of Florida’s graphics department in the Office of Academic Technology. Her portfolio includes final production designs for recognizable entities like the Bank of Jamaica, Busha Browne, Jamaica Money Market Brokers, Red Stripe Beer, Skywritings magazine and the “Partnership in Global Learning” programme (Univ. of FL).

A dated portfolio of Claire’s work is linked. These days, Claire helps to document and administer our day-to-day business and enjoys serving our local Florida community as a volunteer teacher. Although uncommon, she is still available for graphic design projects and commissioned work—usually for friends and family.

Dave

I was born in 1973 in Westmoreland, Jamaica. My earliest memory and strongest motivation was a desire to understand and fly aircraft. With the help of family and friends, I accomplished that goal by age seventeen (17). Up to that time, I had planned for a parallel career by formally studying computer hardware, systems analysis, programming and data processing systems—completing diplomas at the Institute of Management and Production. As an insatiable learner, I thrilled to create systems and solve new problems with synthesized knowledge. It was not sufficient to simply acquire facts. This kind of driven personality may help you understand why a “normal” job would seriously frustrate me.

So for the next 7 years, I worked as an independent IT contractor and consultant for prominent companies—implementing, securing and supporting (then) new kinds of business Wide-Area Networks—linking up to thousands of users. I was privileged to work with scientists, engineers, accountants, and other professionals—all of whom expressed satisfaction with my work. Partly because of my work to enable real-time financial information flow, one NYSE company claims to have saved hundreds of thousands of (U.S.) dollars per day.

In 1997, I moved to Florida to pursue an interdisciplinary aerospace degree called “Engineering Science.” After finishing an Associates Degree in Engineering, I worked at the University of Florida (UF), proofreading and reviewing multimedia content for final publishing. I co-authored “B.S. and M.S. Online Degrees Using a Lectures on Demand Approach,” which was presented at the IEEE; my work is also credited in various books and papers, including “Computer Communications and the Internet” (Latchman), and “Linear Control Systems—A First Course” (Latchman). I am deeply grateful to Dr. H. A. Latchman for his contributions to the insights I developed at UF.

After closely observing the academic community (and being disgruntled with the cancellation of Engineering Science program), I decided that more years pursuing higher education would generally waste my time. Today I run my own IT lab, designed to develop and test various electrical engineering technologies. While trying to solve a common problem, I designed a revolutionary information system. In my spare time, I continue researching and describing it further, towards seeking funding and patent(s).

I’ve now developed a penchant for helping smaller companies (fewer than 200 employees) maximize Returns on Investment. Small business owners seem to struggle with technology decisions, and too often are uninformed about bottom-line impact of technology choices. When technology is planned and executed appropriately, small companies do not need onsite employees for technical support. For that matter, they don’t need onsite employees ;-)
